Lake Model United Nations 2026 [BIP]

Course description

Our project constitutes a Model United Nations conference hosted at the University of Konstanz. The idea is very simple: Simulate the sessions and meetings of real UN bodies, as well as other international organizations such as the WTO, in order to give young students a taste of diplomacy and international affairs. Our conference has 7 committees that each have a different focus:

• Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (Beginner): A committee aimed at introducing beginner MUNers to the topics of social and criminal justice.
• United Nations Human Rights Council (Beginner): A classic MUN committee which debates human rights violations in various regions of the world, and outlines measures to uphold the principles of the UN Charter.
• Arab League (Intermediate): A regional organization which focuses on matters related to members of the League of Arab States (LAS). Debate topics could include anything from economic empowerment all the way to solving contemporary conflicts.
• Historischer Bundestag (Intermediate): Building on the revolutionary success of the MUN world’s first-ever German-speaking committee at LakeMUN 2025, the Bundestag returns, but this time with a (historical) twist. Delegates will dive into the past and debate without any knowledge about the then-future.
• World Trade Organization (Expert): An expert-level committee for students interested in global trade amid the current uncertainties.
• United Nations Security Council (Expert): The toughest committee for the most experienced delegates allowing them to learn about the difficulty of passing a resolution in the presence of veto powers in the UN's most consequential body.
• IPC (Special): In this committee, delegates act as journalists who report on the happenings in other committees. This creates an interaction between politics and the media, just like in real life.

In addition to our academic sessions that last from morning to evening every day of the conference, our team has prepared social events that take place at night. Those are meant to fix the mood of delegates that debate tirelessly all day and give them a chance to network. After all, they all come from different places. We envision welcoming around 110 participants from all over Europe to debate society's most important topics.
